On sandy heathland paths, secluded forest tracks, passing open lawns and pleasant water courses this circular walk goes all the way around the village of Burley.





West of the village the walk crosses the stunning heathland of Church Moor and Vales Moor with far reaching views across Cranes Moor and Kingston National Nature Reserve. Towards the north of the village the walk passes under Castle Hill before gently climbing Vereley Hill where it cross the Picket Plain and heads south and east through Ridley Wood. The eastern half of the walk passes through mixed woodland on forest tracks and rides, passes through the open lawns of Ridley green and Mill Lawn. The final leg to the south east of the village again crosses heathland on quiet paths and tracks.

Walk information
This guided walk starts about 5 minutes from the centre of Burley. The village car park (paid) just behind the Queens Head pub has a public convenience. The village also has others pubs, tea shops, a village shop and various craft and gift shops. Despite being a busy and popular village New Forest Guided Walking know where to find the quiet and pleasant tracks, paths and forest rides.
An alternative start is from Vereley car park near Picket post and the A31.
The car park is south of Burley opposite the cricket green and golf club entrance. If approaching from the south the car park is on your left just as you enter the village 30 mile hour zone. If approaching from the north (A31 Picket Post) drive through Burley village centre, climb up the steep hill and the car park is on your right as you leave the village boundary.

From A31 take exit at Picket Services towards Burley. Vereley car park is on the left in around one mile.

From New Forest and south of forest. Head to Burley, New Forest. Go through the village centre towards A31 (Ringwood Road). Continue through narrow winding lanes through Burley Street. Road climbs up hill with Vereley car park on your right after the road has flattened out and straightened.
This postcode will get you to the general area of the car park but NOT the actual car park. PRINT off or make sure you have directions to the car park BEFORE coming to the forest.
