The walks calendar page lists when the walks are on and will give the number of places left on each walk. This calendar also indicates when Nigel will be available for bespoke walks.
Pass through, round and view some of best broadleaf woodland the New Forest has to offer from rolling hills and sandy heathland paths.
The vast broadleaf inclosures can be views from within, above and from a far on a variety of tracks, paths and faint paths on this spectacular circular walk. The walk takes in the high heathland Fritham Plain as well as exploring the surrounding broadleaf woodland.
With so many great walking opportunities right out the car park Fritham is quite rightly a popular place to start a walk from.
With extensive local knowledge and a keen eye for finding the quite tracks and paths not shown on the map New Forest Guided Walking has some great route options that can be enjoyed at any time of the year.
Very quickly the boring forest tracks are left behind and the walk slows down to enjoy heathland, wetland and winding paths that skirt around the high Fritham Plain west towards Royal Hunting Lodge, Ragged Boys Hill and Halickshole. Depending on the season the walk drops down and across Latchmore Brock on a shingle ford before plunging into the woodland. Like a fun roller coaster the walk climbs out of the woodland valley to Ashley Cross and the high heathland with far reaching views to the very edge of the New Forest and the Northern Commons.
Some of the highlights include the vast woodland inclosures of Sloden, Amberwood and Alderhill full off spectacular oak, beech and tall conifer plantations. Each can be viewed from within on quiet rides and paths or from above on the high ground that surrounds it.
The tiny hamlet of Fritham lies at the far north western edge of the New Forest. The hamlet has a small pub and this along with the car park makes it a busy and popular place to start walks from. The New Forest Guided Walking walks takes away from the more popular tracks so you can enjoy the best of the area on quieter paths, rides and open heathland sections.

Fritham car park
Fritham car park is in Fritham, New Forest, about 100m past the Royal Oak pub. The postcode SO43 7HJ will get you to the right area, but NOT the actual car park using a satnav.
Fritham and the Royal Oak pub are located right at the end of the T-junction road that is clearly sign posted.
If approaching from the west (Ringwood direction) you can turn off the A31 onto the Ocknell Plain and continue straight on until you reach the Fritham turning on your left. If you are traveling from the east or from within the New Forest (Southampton or Lyndhurst/Brockenhurst direction) you will need to use the B3078 Bramshaw to Fordingbridge Road as you CANNOT cross the A31 westbound!
The Fritham car park is about 100m past the Royal Oak Pub on the left down a Forest track. Do not take the immediate left almost opposite the pub; if you do turn round past the chapel and try again!
